Nine pigeons have been found dead in East Sikkim district triggering fear of bird flu outbreak, however, the health department denied that the death occurred due to avian flu.

The pigeons were found dead in various parts of Singtam township yesterday, sending the locals in a tizzy.

The health authorities conducted postmortem on the carcasses and concluded that the birds did not die of the flu, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services department Joint Director K C Bhutia told PTI here today.

There is absolutely no cause to panic, he said.
