They took out a symbolic funeral procession of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and burnt his effigy near the commissioner’s office. Later, they handed over a 15-point charter of demands to the officials to be forwarded to the Governor.

Hitting hard at the State Government, BJP MP Yogi Adityanath expressed concern over the excesses done against the members of a particular community.

Adityanath criticised the State Government for ignoring the development projects in Gorakhpur. He also said that the government was creating hindrance to the implementation of other development project.

He quoted various instances in support of his allegations and said that the plan to set up a regional diagnostic centre at the district hospital worth of Rs 5.50 crore was confined to the file due to apathetic attitude of State Government.

He further said that the textile park and food projects which were approved by the Union Government could not be started due to non-cooperation of the state Government.

In the 16-point charter of demands, Adityanath and office-bearers of around half a dozen social and political organisations demanded the withdrawal of the proposal for construction of slaughterhouse.

They also urged the administration to start the Regional Diagnostic Centre.

The agitators also urged the administration to start the recruitment process of professors and teachers at BRD Medical College to save the recognition of the college.

They expressed concern over increasing number of cow slaughter cases and said that this trend might trigger off law and order problems. They also demanded minute monitoring and observation of increasing number of madarsas and mosques on the Indo-Nepal border and claimed that anti-national activities on this border had increased.

Sharpening their attack at the SP, the agitators said that communal riots in Aligarh, Mau and bomb blast in Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi had
exposed the failure of the government.
