Dismissing the UPA Government’s latest measures to curb inflation as being “too little and too late”, the BJP on Friday held the Prime Minister and three of his key ministers responsible for the failure of political management of the economy.
Party spokesman Prakash Javadekar said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was “obsessed” with Pakistan and foreign affairs forgetting that his specialisation was in economics.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Commerce Minister Kamal Nath too came in for sharp criticism from the BJP leader for failing to take appropriate steps that would keep prices of essential goods in check.
The government had move too late to ban wheat exports two days ago while onions, that were selling at Rs 25 per kg, were still being exported, he pointed out.
He also demanded immediate action against hoarders saying that it was the root cause of rising prices.Ban on speculative trading in primary articles and strengthening of the public distribution system were the other measures that the BJP wanted the government to take.
