District president Narendra Deo Pandey, in a statement, said that the incident might have been averted if SDM Handia and Handia police had tackled the issue intelligently.

Senior party leader Rakesh Dhar Tripathi who visited the affected area on Saturday said that police had taken the matter very lightly which paved the way for violence in Handia on Friday.

He charged the police with falsely implicating the innocent persons in IPC sections.

Tripathi said it seemed that there was no law and order in the district and the common people were not safe at all.

Tripathi, a former MLA from Handia, demanded that all fake cases against 26 persons be revoked as they were innocent.
