The corporators have decided that they would lodge protest with the state government, pleading that the proposal would reduce the importance of the 66-member Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) council. However, the state government has decided that MiC powers would be limited only to sanctioning schemes under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Ashok Pandey, leader of the BJP corporators, said that all corporators should be included in decision making on works worth crores of rupees. Pandey said that a delegation of the corporators would soon meet the minister for urban administration and register the protest. He said the municipal corporation council should have the powers to sanction work of above Rs one crore.
