Congress on Monday charged BJP and its leadership with "deliberately misleading" the nation on the issues of its agenda and leadership saying the Union Minister Murali Manohar Joshi has spoken of a "tussle" following Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's remarks that his successor has been decided.

"Our charge is that BJP is deliberately and grossly misleading the nation on two issues — its agenda (Development) and leadership", party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy said.

"They say their leader is Vajpayee. That is their story. But no longer they are talking about development as they feel that people of India are far from impressed and pressed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to campaign in Uttar Pradesh to preach Moditva", he said.

Reddy said when the BJP leadership realised that Vajpayee has failed, they were now talking about his successor. "There is a tussle in BJP on the issue of succession. There is a trouble going in BJP as who succeeds Vajpayee.

"Our charge is that they have mislead the nation on the two issues", Reddy said.

Another party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said Human Resource Development Minister Joshi's remarks that Vajpayee's successor has not yet been decided spoke of a "marathon war" in the party.
