BJP leader shot dead in Karnataka

A BJP leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Bhatkal town in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district on Sunday night.

A BJP leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Bhatkal town in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district on Sunday night, police said.

Uttara Kannada district Superintendent of Police, S Mukherjee told by telephone that Thimmappa Honnappa Naik, a former Taluka President of BJP, succumbed to gunshot wounds he sustained in the attack.

Mukherjee said police are looking out for clues, and an investigation is on. A post-mortem is being conducted in a hospital and after the procedure it would be known whether he received bullets or pellets in the incident.
