MEMBERS OF the Bharatiya Janata Party district fishery cell have decided to launch a membership drive in fishermen’s colonies and enroll them as active members of the BJP.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the BJP district fishery cell here recently.
Presiding over the meeting, district president and founder of the Eklavya Youth Brigade Ridha Nath Nishad said the fishermen would be made members of the BJP in order to solve their problems.
He alleged that the Samajwadi Party had failed to solve the issues concerning fishermen. Hundreds of fishermen were on the verge of starvation due to the apathetic attitude of the government, he further alleged.
“The Nishad, Bind, Kewat, Majhi, Majhwar, Lodh and Mallah communities have suffered the most during the Samajwadi Party rule and want a change in the State’s leadership,” he said.
Conducting the meeting, deputy mayor Anamika Choudhary said being in a majority, members of the Nishad community played a decisive role in elections.
These people would have to fight for their rights because the government was not interested in solving their problems, he alleged.
“People of the Nishad community are harassed by the Samajwadi Party leaders and they will have to raise their voice against the anti-people policies of the State Government,” he further said.
Choudhary further said former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh provided equal rights and opportunities to the Nishad community.
District fishery cell vice-president Rinku Nishad said by joining the BJP, the fishermen would get a platform to raise their voice against the government.
Jitendra Nishad, Gorey Lal Nishad, Brijesh Kumar and Asha Ram Bind and others also addressed the meeting.
