Tripathi was on his way to Bhatni to console members of the families of a party worker and jeweller who died at Bhagauch Ghat. Talking to mediapersons, Tripathi said the crime graph had soared during the Samajwadi Party regime.

He also said Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had himself admitted on May 16 that separatist forces were active in 34 districts of the State.

Tripathi condemned the State Government for not carrying out an investigation into the increasing number of madrasas on the Indo-Nepal border. He said the border was a transit point for smuggling of drugs and fake currency, but the government was least concerned over it. Responding to a question, he said the government had failed to check cases of crime as many criminals had links with ruling party politicians.

He also criticised the Union Government for a hike in petroleum prices and demanded a check on unnecessary expenditure and relief for the common man.

Tripathi’s assertion that the BJP would go it alone in Vidhan Sabha elections in the State comes after the Congress said much the same thing.
