ONCE AGAIN the cash-starved Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) expressed its helplessness before the Allahabad High Court to clear pending dues of its pensioners.
ONCE AGAIN the cash-starved Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) expressed its helplessness before the Allahabad High Court to clear pending dues of its pensioners.

But the high court today set aside all pleas of the KMC and fixed October 26 for next hearing. Therefore, any decision relating to payment of salaries of employees will only be taken after Diwali and Eid.
Appearing before the court, the KMC submitted an affidavit expressing its inability to clear the pending dues of pensioners due to financial crisis.
According to sources, State Government also refused to extend any financial assistance to KMC for payment of pending dues of pensioners. After the refusal of the State Government, KMC officials submitted an affidavit before the high court expressing inability to clear dues of pensioners.
It is pertinent to point out that on a writ petition filed recently, Allahabad High Court had directed the KMC to clear all pending dues of its pensioners. The court had also imposed a ban on all payments to be made by the KMC, including the salary of its employees unless it clears all dues of its pensioners.
During the hearing of the case on Thursday at Allahabad High Court, KMC expressed its helplessness to clear the pending dues of pensioners and pleaded for some reprieve for distributing the salaries to its employees.
Following the submission of KMC before the High Court now the thousands of employees of the civic body would not be able get their salaries. In its earlier order, the High Court had clearly stated that no payments would be made by the KMC, including salaries to its employees unless dues of pensioners are cleared.
A senior KMC official pointed that the State Government had clearly refused to extend any financial assistance to KMC.
Now when the State Government had backed out completely and refused to extend any financial held to KMC, it now only depends on the High Court to give some reprieve at least for the payment of salaries.
Following the ban imposed by high court on all payment including salaries, KMC employees are set to celebrate black Diwali.
