Four people have been injured in Bengaluru after being hit by a speeding BMW driven by an allegedly drunk executive of a liquor company.
Samrat Chadha was arrested later on Saturday after his luxury car hit an auto-rickshaw on the GM Palya Road in Indiranagar, reports quoted the police as saying.
A complaint filed by one of those injured said Chadha overtook two vehicles from the left before crashing into the auto-rickshaw he was travelling in. The complainant and three others were thrown off the auto after the collision.
A report by Deccan Herald said Chadha initially refused to undergo a test for alcohol at the police station and argued with officers present there. The report quoted an officer as saying that he later tested positive for alcohol in his body.
“Alcometer tests indicated alcohol levels above permissible limits. The police let him free as he had also suffered injuries. The local police have been directed to arrest him at the earliest,” additional commissioner of police (traffic) R Hithendra told Deccan Herald.
Chadha has been booked under IPC Section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and IMV Act section 185 (drink-driving). The BMW car involved in the collision has been seized.
