It was a particularly grisly Monday morning in sector 15 A of Delhi's suburb Noida. Residents woke up to the eerie sight of the bodies of a young couple hanging from an electricity pole and a tree behind the sector.

The postmortem report has confirmed suicide, claim police. But what is baffling the relatives of the deceased is the fact that both the bodies were hanging at a height of 13 to 16 feet, their feet at least 8 feet above ground. How they reached the height to commit suicide was unclear.
The woman was found hanging from a tree with her red sari tied around her neck, while the man's body was found suspended from an electricity pole nearby. A piece of wire had been used to hang him.
The couple were identified as Pappu Karmakar (28), a resident of Pilibhit, and his wife Vandana Karmakar, 26. Both were presently living at a house in New Ashok Nagar.
Police claim it was marital discord that drove the two to their death.
According to police, when they broke open the couple's room, signs of a physical fight were evident. Shards of broken china and glass littered the floor, police said, and half-cooked food and personal belongings were flung all around.
Naresh (who goes by his first name only), Pappu Karmakar's cousin said, "Theirs was love marriage. They have two children Raj Kumar (6) and Divya Kumar (3) who live with their grandfather Kartik Karmakar at Khan Market in Delhi."
Kartik Karmakar said the couple’s quarrels were routine and "were not of such a magnitude that both would be forced to
commit suicide."
Neighbours said the couple’s fights had intensified ever since Vandana's brother Vijay had moved in with them.
“The murder angle has been ruled out,” said R.N. Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police.
"The post mortem report revealed the cause of death as asphyxia (choking) as a result of hanging and confirmed suicide. There were no other ante mortem injuries on the body.” said Mishra.
“Further inspection of the site revealed there was a slanting tree through which one can easily climb the electric pole. No suicide note was recovered."
“Vandana's brother Vijay told us last night Pappu drank liquor with friends. This led to a fight between the two. Later, both went out. Vijay too left for a friend's room," said Mishra.
However, relatives expressed disbelief at the post-mortem report and said they suspected foul play.
"Investigations are not being carried out properly," said a relative who didn’t wish to be identified for fear of reprisal. “Police just want to close the case in a rush,” he said.
