Body of Briton killed on Dal Lake to be flown home

Three days after her murder on a houseboat in Srinagar, the body of 22-year-old Briton Sarah Elizabeth was allowed to be flown out of the state for her hometown in the UK.

Three days after her murder on a houseboat in Srinagar, the body of 22-year-old Briton Sarah Elizabeth was allowed to be flown out of the state for her hometown in the UK.

The state police department’s crime branch handed over the body to two British high commission officials who had arrived on Tuesday from New Delhi.

From Delhi, the body will be flown to the victim’s native place, Guernsey.

Elizabeth had been living for more than a couple of months on the houseboat on which she was killed in the early hours of April 6. A Dutch national, De-wit Richard, 43, is believed to be behind the murder. A preliminary police report suggests he barged into the victim’s room and stabbed her to death.

The police arrested Richard at a place around 80 km south of Srinagar when he was trying to flee from the state. Later, he reportedly admitted to the crime.
