A country-made bomb exploded in a crowded locality in Aligarh on Wednesday, injuring a ragpicker who was rummaging through the garbage.

The victim Shakeel along with his friend were searching for steel scrap in the garbage before noon in Abbas Nagar locality when they found the bomb in a gunny bag, police said, adding that the bomb exploded as they fiddled with it.

Police is investigating as to how the device found its way to the garbage dump.

The victim was rushed to the Jawahar Lal Nehru medical college were he is battling for life.
