This was the second bomb hoax in the last 15 days.

On receiving the call, the railways and the district administration swung into action. Every compartment of the train was checked. Officials heaved a sigh of relief when no bomb was found.

Sources said the Gorakhdham Express was was scheduled to depart from platform 1 at 3.40 pm when the GRP control room received a call that a live bomb had been planted on a compartment of the train. The station superintendent passed on the message to senior officials and Government Railway Police, along with the CIB and the RPF.

Passengers who were waiting on platform 1, ran for cover. Some sought shelter in bookstalls. Vendors closed their shops and moved out of the station. Police personnel and senior officials rushed to site and issued an order to vacate the platform. Sniffer dogs were pressed into service. After a nearly 90-minute search, officials announced no bomb was found and the call was a hoax.

The train left the station an hour and a half behind schedule. Officials have ordered to install caller ID facility on the GRP control room telephone to identify such hoax callers.

On March 20, the GRP control room had received a call that a bomb had been planted on the Chauri Chaura Express.
