Born into Brothels — the documentary that tracks the experiences of prostitutes in a red light area of Kolkata won the Oscars for Best Documentary Feature on Monday.

Accepting the award Zana Briski, who produced and directed the documentary with Ross Kauffman said, "We thank the kids. They are watching in Calcutta."
Pitted against Born into Brothels for the highest honour Hollywood can give was The Story of the Weeping Camel, Super Size Me, Tupac: Resurrection and Twist of faith.
Briski, a photojournalist, had visited Kolkata with the intention to film prostitution.
While documenting the experiences of prostitutes in Sonagachi, she befriended many of their children and decided to give them cameras to take photos of the world they lived in.
The results were surprising with the children presenting unique and insightful portrayal of their harsh world.
