Copying a stunt from a reality show cost a nine-year-old boy his life. Chandan Singh Rawat, an ardent fan of MTV’s reality show Roadies accidentally hanged himself while imitating a stunt from the show.
Chandan, who was living here with his uncle Bhagat Singh for the past four years, had watched the Roadies episode where two female contestants were made to stand on a wooden stool with their hands tied. A rope was also placed around their neck.
Another semi-finalist was then given three minutes to save one of them.
“He watched the episode with his friends and tried to imitate the stunt after his friends left. After hearing a loud noise, I rushed to the room and found Chandan hanging from the ceiling fan,” Bhagat Singh told mediapersons.
Singh’s nephew Kamlesh, 8, who also lives with them, told the police that Chandan, a class III student, had spoken about imitating the television stunt. He had also arranged for the stockings from Singh’s daughter Mitali.
Vikas Nagar Station Officer Sanjay Rai said a preliminary investigation suggested that the boy died while trying to imitate the reality show. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and further investigations are on.
Chandan was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. His father is a farmer in Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. His parents have been informed about the incident.
