Brain fever death toll touches 185

One more child succumbed to Japanese encephalitis in Gorakhpur on Thursday, raising the death toll to 185.

One more child succumbed to Japanese encephalitis in Gorakhpur on Thursday, raising the death toll from the dreaded disease since April 1 this year to 185.

Fifteen fresh cases of brain infecting illness were reported from different parts of the district since Wednesday evening, Additional Director (Health) Umakant Prasad said.

As many as 74 people were still undergoing treatment at the BRD Medical College Hospital in Gorakhpur, he said.

A total of 1106 people were afflicted with the disease in the district since April 1, Prasad said.

Out of these, 734 were discharged from the hospital after treatment, he said.
