Braveheart gives kidnappers the slip

An eight-year-old school boy outwitted his kidnappers and escaped from their clutches at Langol village in Imphal's west district, official reports said on Tuesday.

An eight-year-old school boy outwitted his kidnappers and escaped from their clutches at Langol village in Imphal's west district, official reports said on Tuesday.

The incident occured on Monday when the boy identified as M Amrit Singh, who studies in class III, was going to school with two of his friends at Langol village area under Lamphel police station, about 8 km west of Imphal.

When his two friends entered a shop to buy pencils, Amrit went to a nearby playground where he was approached by three persons who alighted from a vehicle, reports said.

The kidnappers tried to forcibly drag the boy inside the vehicle parked nearby, reports said. When the vehicle was about to move, the boy managed to jump out and raised an alarm.

As the locals gathered, the kidnappers fled from the spot.
