Gone are the days when the day’s meal started with white breads and a glass of milk. With numerous variety of healthier breads available in market, people especially youngsters, are opting for more distinctive varieties of bread.

“I like to have brown farmers’ bread as it gives me a good kick-start for my day ahead. It is really healthy for diabetic too,” says Ashmee Darapuneni from IP University. And she’s not alone. The availability of different kinds of breads has pushed the sale too. “The sales of breads like Farm House and Ciabatta have gone up. We now bake around 15-20 rolls per day,” says Charenjeet Singh from Wengers. “Earlier, mostly brown, multi-grain or garlic breads were in demand. But now, Focaccia is also in demand.”

Apart from the Ciabatta, meaning ‘carpet slipper’, the other varieties in demand include the Italian Butter Croissant, Jalapeno Pepper and cheese bread, Barn Loaf, Baguette and Sun dried tomato Focaccia to name a few. From Spicy corn to milk, they are all available.

And they are not all that expensive too. Says medical student Nidhi Verma, “Not all breads are costly, but they bring a variety to our daily meal.” Adds Ankur Aggarwal, “Now there are so many varieties, you can have a different one each day of the month.”
