IN A shocking incident, a woman’s arm was almost chopped off from the shoulder when a youth attacked her with a sharp axe in Hanumanganj area on Sunday. Although the woman’s arm was restored after a four-hour long operation, with severe loss of blood her condition remains serious.

According to police, the victim, Madhuri, 40, lives in a rented house in a building near Durga Temple in Hanumanganj. The accused, Ashok Kahar, 25, a native of Raipur, who is living on rent in a building near Durga Mandir, attacked her in the morning when she had come out in the balcony.

Kahar then fled the spot. It is not known what exactly prompted him to attack the woman today though he had a row with her a few months ago.

Police said Madhuri ran a tiffin centre and also supplied food to Kahar but they had a dispute in the past. Besides, the accused had earlier asked the complainant to leave her husband and start living with him.

The doctors hope that her hand will become functional after the surgery. On the complaint of victim, the police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused and a hunt is on.
