In a jolt to the Haryana unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party, its state General Secretary Suman Singh Sharma quit the party and joined the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC).

Sharma made the announcement in Sonepat on Monday in the presence of Shanti Rathi, a former Haryana Minister and HJC leader.

Sharma was immediately appointed in-charge of the HJC party affairs for Sonepat Lok Sabha constituency and also promised the party ticket from the seat.

He said he was compelled to quit BSP as the workers were not given "respect and recognition".
