However, the police claimed that the demonstrators were carrying weapons without licences. The cops added that Anil Shukla Warsi and his supporters had even threatened the men in khaki when they were asked to show the papers. Warsi, an expected candidate of the BSP from Chaubeypur legislative assembly seat was campaigning in Makanpur village along with his supporters. The supporters were armed with double-barrel guns and rifles.
Meanwhile, locals were taking out a funeral procession of an imam. The campaign party also joined in. The police stopped the procession and asked the gun-wielding persons to show their weapon licences.
Warsi alleged that despite showing the relevant papers, the police forcibly took away their arms. He claimed that the cops were working at the behest of a Samajwadi Party leader.
Soon, Warsi and his supporters sat on dharna, raised anti-police slogans and demanded their arms be returned immediately.
