Buddha resigns as W Bengal CM

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattcharjee staked claim to form the new government in the state.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattcharjee, who powered ruling Left Front to a landslide win in assembly polls, on Monday tendered his resignation to Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi and staked claim to form the new government in the state.

Bhattacharjee met the Governor at Raj Bhavan for about 30 minutes.

The Governor accepted his resignation and asked him to continue till the swearing-in of his new Ministry on May 18.

"As per formality, I tendered my resignation to the Governor who also handed me a letter asking me to continue till the swearing-in of my new government," Bhattacharjee said.

Bhattacharjee said he had also handed over to the Governor a letter of the Left Front Chairman Biman Bose staking claim to form the new Left Front government.
