CONDEMNING THE act of vandalism on the Loreto Convent campus, Governor TV Rajeswar said occult practices in a school premises should be discouraged. The Governor conveyed this to the delegation led by MLA Peter Fanthome and Loreto Convent principal Sister Monica. The Governor also assured full protection to the minority institutions, but reiterated that no occult practices were justified in a school. The four-member delegation had called on him on Tuesday evening and explained how and why the September 6 special prayers were conducted. They also apprised him of the attack on the college Church on Sunday that left them in a state of shock, surprise and fear.

The delegation demanded security for Christian educational institutions, especially for LC and sought a stern action against those who resorted to vandalism and attacked the Church.
When Sister Monica tired to explain that it was a regular prayer service meant for the spiritual development of students, the Governor reportedly repeated his version that occult practices should be discouraged at all levels.
Other members of the delegation includes Father Paul Rodrigues and LC Rector Sister Tressia. The delegation explained that the school had invited Fr Sebastian and Nobo Kumar Mandal from the West Bengal to conduct a prayer service.
“They have a centre of spirituality in Krishnanagar in West Bengal which is visited by thousands of people from that area,” explained Peter Fanthome.
After meeting the Governor, the members of the delegation unanimously told the press that the meeting was fruitful. “The meeting lasted for 15 minutes and His Excellency gave us a patient hearing. He promised us to provide security to Christian educational institutions and reiterated that a stern action will be initiated against those who attacked the church,” reiterated Fr Paul Rodrigues, secretary to Association of Catholic Educational Institutions of UP.
