This will be effected through amendments in the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Bill that was introduced in parliament on Aug 25, 2006, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi announced after a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"The bill was referred to the department-related parliamentary standing committee on human resource development for examination and report. The committee has since presented its report to parliament on Dec 1," Dasmunsi said.

"The amendment bill would be introduced in the Lok Sabha with such certain consequential changes on the basis of the recommendations of the parliamentary standing committee to the extent acceptable to the government," he added.
