Curtains came down on electioneering in Thane district for the October 13 assembly polls with most of the candidates grabbing the last minute opportunity to woo the voters.
Most of the candidates concentrated on public meetings and road shows in various parts of constituencies.
Shiv Sena Thane district chief Eknath Shinde, accompanied by Sena nominee from Thane city Rajan Vichare, began the day by paying tributes to the late Sena district chief Anand Dighe at his 'samadhi' and started their rallies.
In the city, rebel NCP candidate Deoram Bhoir put up a splendid show by pressing into force thousands of vehicles and persons in the rally. Pratap Sarnaik, the Sena nominee from Ovla-Majiwada, also did not lag behind and made his own rally and went upto Mira Bhayander to woo the voters.
Congress' candidates Subash Kanade, Dileep Deherkar and Manoj Shinde also took out rallies in the city as done by the MNS candidates who had also put up a good show. At a news conference just before the close of the electioneering Eknath Shinde confidently claimed that the situation was conducive this time for the Sena-BJP combine and they will surely get the maximum number of seats in the district.
"Once in power our priority is to relieve the citizens of Thane from Octroi," he said.
