A crucial meeting of captains and coaches of various first-class teams in the country began on Friday to discuss the format of Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy cricket tournaments.

The meeting will assess the new format of the two premier domestic tournaments which was introduced last season. While there seems to be a positive response towards the Ranji Trophy format, some reservations have been raised against the new format of the Duleep Trophy which dropped the system of five zonal teams playing on a league-cum-knock-out basis in favour of three 'elite' and two 'plate' teams.

Cricket Board had circulated a set of questions to the participating captains and coaches ahead of the meeting.

The meeting will also discuss the pitch and dressing room facilities in various centres, the umpiring standards and is likely to recommend an early start of the domestic season so that the players are not exposed to the scorching heat of April and May.
