Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) Bosco George told PTI that a case under section 409 of IPC (criminal breach of trust by public servant) has been filed against the minister.

The minister has been accused of selling land belonging to Goa State Housing Board at a throw-away price to his own trust.

Halarnkar is the chairman of Goa Housing Board, an autonomous body constituted under his ministry.

Local civil rights activists Kashinath Shetye and Ketan Govekar had moved the magistrate's court against the vigilance department recently after it failed to file FIR in connection with land allotment at Colvale village.

Monday, Judicial Magistrate First Class Shabnam Sheikh ordered vigilance department to file an FIR.

As per the complaint, Halarnkar caused a loss of Rs 57 lakh to the exchequer by allotting 23,000 sq mt of land at the rate of Rs 1,000 per sq mt to his own trust, whereas the current market rate is more than Rs 4,000 per sq mt.
