CBI opposes bail pleas of Mecca Masjid blast accused

The CBI today filed a counter petition in a local court opposing the bail pleas of two accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid bomb blast case.

The CBI on Wednesday filed a counter petition in a local court opposing the bail pleas of two accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid bomb blast case.

The investigating agency, which is probing the Mecca Masjid blast, in its counter opposed the bail applications of two accused - Devendra Gupta and Lokesh Sharma - on the grounds including that investigations were still on in the case.

The XIV Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court then posted the matter to tomorrow for arguments. Gupta and Sharma, who are among the five persons who have been named as accused in the chargesheet filed by Rajasthan ATS in the 2007 Ajmer blast case last month, are presently under judicial custody here in connection with the Mecca Masjid blast.

The duo moved bail petitions through their counsel in the court early this month and contended that the CBI had not filed a chargesheet so far in the Mecca Masjid case and that they were under judicial custody since June 17.

"The mandatory period for filing chargesheet within 90 days has already been completed. It is our first bail application and we are ready to furnish sureties and abide by any terms and conditions which may be imposed by the court," the duo had submitted and requested the court to grant them bail.
