"We have asked the West Bengal Government to take corrective action in every city and village," Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar told reporters here.

He, however, said the disease has not affected India's domestic and overseas poultry market much.

"There is no major impact on the market," Pawar said.

The West Bengal Government has already begun culling of birds in 105 villages in Birbhum district. Around 35,000 to 40,000 chicken have died in the district.

Similar operations are to be carried out in South Dinajpur district.
