Centre intending to dilute RTI

Speaking at a workshop on the Right to Information Act 2005 organised by the Lucknow Chapter of the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India at ICWAI Bhavan here, Dwivedi said that the Union Government was already heading towards amending the RTI Act.

Ashok Agnihotri, general manager (Industrial Relations and Law), UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL), said that if an applicant did not get the desired information under the RTI Act, he could appeal against the authority in the Office of the State Information Commission or Central Information Commission.
There were practical difficulties in the implementation of the RTI Act in the form of increased litigations but that should not come in the way of the “Right to Information movement starting in the country,” he said

S R Dadapuri, retired inspector general of police, said that the RTI Act was the need of the hour, he added.
