The UPA Government at the Centre had waived farmers' loan to the tune of Rs 65,000 crore last year, while the DMK government had written off loans worth Rs 7,000 crore, indicating their concern for the poor farmers, he said.

Seeking votes for Congress candidate, M N Kandasamy in Thondamuthur constituency, going to bypolls on August 18, he said that UPA Government, which implemented the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme, has passed the historic Education bill in Lok Sabha, which would make education for children between the ages of six and 14 a fundamental right.

On the same lines, a bill would soon come for Food Security, he said adding that these all were indications that the government wanted to provide employment, education and food to the people, without any problem.

Similarly, Tamil Nadu Government also come out with various schemes like Marriage scheme, maternity scheme and the recent being the Medical Insurance scheme for the poor, he said.

State rural industries minister, Pongalur N Palanisamy said AIADMK instead of boycotting could have contested the elections to uphold democracy.
