This was disclosed by Joint Secretary of Union Home Ministry (border management) BS Lele after a meeting with the representative of Assam government and All Assam Students Union (AASU) on implementation of Assam Accord.

Stating that there was "no dispute" along the Bangladesh border, Lele said about 3000 acres of land were in "adverse possession" (illegal possession).

Lele gave the assurance after the AASU raised the border problem with Bangladesh in the meeting and the alleged encroachment of land of Assam by that country.

The AASU demanded that the Indo-Bangla border dispute be settled immediately.

Lele said the border in the Assam sector would be totally sealed after a 43 km stretch was developed.

Lele along with four other members reached on Saturday and are scheduled to visit the border area in the next couple of days and submit a report to the Centre.

There are both land and riverine areas along the Bangladesh border in the Assam sector.
