"Changes in the political system in the country is inevitable but it should be by planned design and not by default as witnessed in erstwhile Soviet Union," Jayaprakash said addressing students from various Maharashtra universities at a debate competition here.

"Youths, which constitute 73 per cent of the total population, are the biggest stake-holder in the process of change," he said.

"Unless we continue to stress on conviction, clarity and integrity on what kind of changes we want to bring in, the desired change -- a true non-corrupt and honest democracy -- will not be possible," he said.

Narayan also said the university curriculum should emphasize on a combination of humanity with science subjects for the students to be integrated with the society.
