The Right Honourable Charles Peter Kennedy, has been leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, the third largest party in UK since 1999. Upon graduation he went to work for BBC Highland as a journalist, and later carried out research at Indiana University in the US. Kennedy was one of the few leaders who supported the merger of the SDP and the Liberal Party to form the Social and Liberal Democratic Party, later renamed the Liberal Democrats. However he faced worst criticisms for skipping debates on Iraq and the budget in 2003, reportedly for his submission to alcoholism.

For the 2005 elections Kennedy has planned his regional campaigning in such a way which would transform lower level of national support into a greater number of Parliamentary seats. He also proposed to extend this strategy to target the seats held by senior Conservatives and simultaneously to corner Labour seats, attracting Muslim voters particularly, who are dissatisfied because of the Iraq war.

The Liberal Democrats' candidate for Ross, Skye & Lochaber, although some experts dismiss him as frivolous, significant sections of British electorate regard him a powerful candidate for Prime Ministership.
