Mumbai spinner Ankeet Chavan, one of the three Rajasthan Royals players caught in the spot fixing scandal, returned home on Wednesday after being released on bail.
Flanked by his father and brother, a sombre-looking Chavan said he was hopeful of further relief in the case that would enable him to return to cricket.
“I have always given 100%, always played my cricket with passion. I just hope I get a positive result from the judiciary so that I can start my career again,” he told reporters.
Waiting for probe
The Mumbai bowler, who has been suspended by the BCCI as well as his employers, Air India, will have to wait for the investigations to end to know if he stands a chance to get back to the game.
A Delhi court granted bail to Chavan after it concluded that the police had not provided enough evidence against him and his Royals teammate S Sreesanth to justify charging them under the tough Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) - usually reserved for gangsters.
Chavan did not comment on the status of his case.
“The matter is sub judice. I would like to thank the judiciary for granting me bail, and my family and friends for supporting me a lot.”
Chavan was earlier granted temporary bail this month to get married to long time girlfriend Neha Sambri and he had surrendered to the Delhi Police after it ended on June 6.
Ankeet's elder brother, Nihar, said the family members were trying to cheer him up.
“We are just glad to have him back. The bail order was a welcome respite after weeks of despair. Ankeet has largely been quiet since his return. We want to see him get back to his normal routine. But we want him to do it at his own pace,” Nihar said.
“He will be staying at home. After all that he is been through in the past few weeks, we want him to spend time in peace.”
