Chennai Police Commissioner Letika Saran on Friday said the boys, between 15 and 17 years, befriended the victim, Aravind, while playing cricket in their locality on December 26.

Aravind was taken to a home but when he protested, the kidnappers panicked and hit him on the head with a brick.

He was left near a temple, where his body was found later. “The boy was already dead by the time the ransom call was made,” Saran said.
