Children step on trendmill!
Apparel makers are wooing children with irresistible clothes and funky accessories.
The teenagers are not the only one conscious about the way they look these days. Children are equally interested in making heads turn. They too want to flaunt their best dress when they go out with their friends. The market is flooded with trendy colourful dresses, shorts and skirts with matching accessories like bags, shoes and ribbons that the kids can choose from.
Radhika Singh, five, makes it a point to co-ordinate her outfit with matching accessories. “I like to wear new skirts and tops and each time I go shopping with my mother I like to buy sweet dresses in beautiful colours and designs that suit me,” says Singh who likes to browse through fashion magazines to know what’s in this season. Whereas 8-year-old Sanya Rana candidly admits she can’t do without her denim shorts with short sleeve tees for the day and long pants for a party. “Blue is my favourite colour and I have all shades of blue in my wardrobe,” announces the Amity School, Noida student. Adds her marketing consultant mom Sunita, “Hair bands and bags are two things that both my daughters Sanya and Sayrah are extremely fond of.”
You needn’t dig deep into your pockets to get a trendy outfit for your child. All one needs to do is mix and match. Even though she may get most of their clothes from abroad, Sunita matches them with wash and wear type of clothes from Lajpat Nagar. “For casual dressing most export houses offer a great variety to choose from. So I usually pick up T shirts form there and co-ordinate them with combos that I pick up from Lilliput and various other shops in and around Delhi,” she says. Bright dresses in chiffon and georgette are moving fast this season. But nothing looks better than denim shorts and a halter. After all, kids, too, love to make a style statement!
