Chinhat resident held for espionage

SPECIAL TASK force (STF) sleuths on Wednesday unearthed yet another module of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and arrested a Lucknow-based spy engaged in collecting data from various wings of the Indian Army and Air Force here.
The arrested ISI agent was identified as Salal Abdul Nasir alias Nasir Kidwai, a resident of Juggaur, Chinhat. Nasir was dealing in car business.
Senior army and air force officials were informed about the arrest. The army intelligence is also likely to probe if anybody from the Cantonment were involved in the espionage.
The cops have recovered a fake army identity card and a movement card in his name, documents related to vital information about army, seals of top designations of army, a cellphone and cash from the accused.
Interrogation by Intelligence Bureau (IB) and STF sleuths, however, indicated that Nasir was not in possession of any significant data from the defence establishments. The sleuths revealed that the ISI officials were not satisfied with the data passed on by Nasir so far.
ASP STF Vijay Bhushan was assigned the job to trace the ISI module following a tip-off from IB. The STF team laid a trap and conducted raid in a house in Juggaur locality today. They nabbed Nasir from the place along with the objectionable documents.
In the course of interrogation, Nasir confessed that he had met a military intelligence officer Shahid Siddiqui in Lahore, Pakistan in 2004. Nasir is married to a girl from Nazimabad in Karachi. He was staying with his in-laws in Karachi but the period of visa got expired. He had gone to extend the period of visa at the SP’s office in Lahore where he met Shahid. While assuring him to help in extending the visa Shahid lured Nasir to work for Pakistan’s ISI. Nasir confessed to have received about Rs 70,000 from ISI officials so far against the job of collecting army data. Nasir was given job specifically for collection of army data but he started visiting the air force base at Bakshi ka Talab and Memaura too. He had sent data about the strength of troop and arsenal at the Army Headquarters and air force base.
