Cinema modernised Indian consciousness: Reddy
Information and Broadcasting Jaipal Reddy said cinema had been instrumental in modernising the consciousness of Indians.
Appreciating the progressive role played by the cinema, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Jaipal Reddy on Sunday said it had been instrumental in modernising the consciousness of Indians.

"Cinema has historically played a progressive role in India. It has brought about a positive change in society and democratic ideas such as equality and the cause of the fair sex," Reddy said at the awards ceremony on the closing day of the Osian's Cinefan film festival this evening.
Praising organisers for extending the festival beyond screenings to business and other creative aspects also, Reddy offered his unstinted support for next year's edition of the film festival.
"People have brought to my notice some of the problems faced by the festival organisers. Without encroaching upon their creativity, I offer them my unstinted support. Many of these complaints would disappear by next year," he said.
Appealing to the I&B Ministry for a more relaxed policy of censorship for movies in film festivals, Cinefan Director Aruna Vasudev said such festivals should not be relegated to a fortnight, but must be held throughout the year.
"I need to discuss with the Minister the ramifications of holding film festivals across the length and breadth of the country," she added.
