A dedicated 24x7 helpline number for Mumbaikars taking long distance trains has been started by the Western Railway (WR). The helpline number — 10721 — was launched as the burden on 139, the national helpline number, has increased manifold, especially with the ongoing Gurjar agitation.

“There are five dedicated lines for callers from Mumbai to use,” said WR chief PRO, S Chandrayan. The lines would announce only trains arriving and departing from Mumbai.

Sources said 139 is constantly engaged as many people currently want to know the status of the trains traversing through the areas affected by the Gurjar agitation.

The Western Railway has till now cancelled four trains and has incurred a loss of over Rs 50 lakh due to the agitation. For the past eight days, about 20 trains going towards, Delhi, Jaipur, Amritsar and other northern cities are getting diverted. The maximum number of diversions — 46 — happened just two days ago. On December 28, about 21 long-distance trains were diverted.
