AKANKSHA SINGH fulfills everybody’s aspirations by being this year’s High School topper among girls. Hold on! She stands second on the overall merit list. And that makes her a very special girl.

Everybody is happy. Her parents. Her school teachers. Her classmates. But, she is happy because her village will shower blessings on her. “Every year somebody from my village Bahuchara in Pratapgarh makes it to the civil services. And I want to carry forward this tradition,” she says.

Akanksha is from Rajat Girls Inter College, Indira Nagar. Kamini Yadav, another girl of this college, got 9th rank in the merit list. Surkhab Bano of the same college had topped among girls and got overall 2nd rank in the intermediate.
The topper (Kanpur boy) secured 538 out of 600 while Akanksha got 536 (89.66 pc).

“I was always confident of topping but I fail to understand why I could not. Yes, I’m a bit disappointed but then there is nothing much that I can do about it. It’s all luck,” says she.

She said there was a good academic atmosphere at her place. Her father WB Singh is ASP (Mirzapur) while her uncle CB Singh is ADM (Saharanpur).

She plans to do Intermediate with biology and try her luck in the competitive medical exams. Akanksha has got 99 pc in Maths. Her mother Sunita Singh says, “Akanksha is very studious. She always did well in her class. We had no doubts about performance,” her mom said. Akanksha is opposed to reservations but favours self-centre system.

Kamini Yadav (9th rank, 87.83 pc) also wants to become an IAS officer. She sees corruption as the biggest problem of the country. “I used to study for almost 16 hours a day. Today I’m happy that my hard work has been rewarded,” she says.

The college principal hugged them while the teachers wished them all the success for their future. All through the day, it was celebration time at Rajat Girls Inter College. A couple of students from SKD Inter College, Rajajipuram—Ankur Asthana and Ankit Yadav— also figured on the merit list. Ankur got 19th rank while Ankit secured 20th rank. Both of them want to become software engineers. The duo gave the credit of their success to their teachers and family members.
