A GANG of miscreants fired at a trader and injured him seriously in an abortive attempt of loot in Ghazipur district on Saturday night. The miscreants managed to flee leaving the scene the booty behind when the locals challenged them. The injured trader, identified as Ajit Agrawal, has been admitted to a private hospital in Varanasi where his condition is stated to be critical. Police are conducting raids to arrest the miscreants.

According to information, 35-year-old Ajit Agrawal owns a provision stores in Yusufpur Kasba under the Mohammadabad police station. After closing his shop at around 8.30 pm, he left for home on his bike carrying money. Miscreants on two motorcycles also started chasing the trader.
As the trader stopped his bike near his house, miscreants appeared before him. One of them tried to snatch the bag containing money from the trader. When the trader raised an objection, miscreants opened fire at him, causing him injuries.
Commotion gripped the area soon after the incident. Family members of trader and neighbours rushed towards the incident site. Sensing danger, the miscreants opened fire in air and fled the scene. On getting information, police rushed the spot and started the preliminary investigation. The injured was rushed to the government hospital from where he was referred to Varanasi following deterioration in his condition.
