The party’s district committee has initiated the process of selection of candidates. Issues related to demolition of houses at Gopal Nagar, Mangla Vihar and other areas of the city by the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) would be on the priority list of party’s poll plank.

The KDA demolition drive and rampant corruption in the department would also be on the party’s agenda.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, district president of the party Govind Verma said, “Keeping in view the overwhelming support the party has received from the masses, it has decided to vie for 110 seats in the Municipal elections.”

The party would also contest for the seat of mayor and two names have already been received till date, Verma said.

Verma said that the JM entered into an alliance with four other parties for the election.

Speaking on the party’s agenda for the elections, Verma clearly pointed out that the party had already launched an agitation against KDA’s demolition drive in the city.

In reply to a question, Verma said, “KDA’s demolition drive at Gopal Nagar, Mangla Vihar and other areas cannot be justified. The people have been living there for the past 20 years and now all of a sudden their houses have been declared illegal.”

He pointed out that national president of the party Raj Babbar and former Prime Minister VP Singh expressed their solidarity with the residents of Gopal Nagar and Mangla Vihar.

The party held housing societies, land grabbers and corrupt officials of the KDA responsible for the current situation. He demanded that all residential constructions should be legalised after charging fee.

Besides, the party decided to work for the development of 500 slums in the city.
