THE CITY police is close to nabbing the gang that had committed over a dozen dacoities in the State capital in the last couple of months.

Three persons were reportedly rounded up on Wednesday. Though the police officials are tightlipped about the arrests, it is learnt that they were taken into custody after their links with dacoits were established.

Besides, the trail of the accused, who committed a dacoity with similar modus operandi in Indore on Wednesday and another robbery in Dewas recently also led the investigators to Bhopal. The Dewas police reportedly picked up two persons of Bangladesh origin from Chandbad and took them into custody after interrogation.

Police sources claim that vital clues have been gathered about the gang and police are zeroing in on the gang. The sources said that interrogations of the arrested are on and more arrests are likely in the next few days.

The police in the capital were under great pressure to bust the gang, which is believed to have committed seven major dacoities within three months.

The first dacoity occurred in Ayodhya Nagar on June 20 followed by dacoities in Shahpura, Bairagarh, Idgah Hills, Gandhi Nagar, Lalghati and Vidya Nagar, the last on September 27. The modus operandi was similar in all cases where the five-six gang members would take away valuables and cash without resorting to any violence. The dacoity in Indore on Wednesday was also committed on similar lines.
