A deputy superintendent of police was injured when a mob pelted stones at demo vehicle of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s fleet near a village of Etawah on Tuesday.

Chief minister however was safe as his vehicle was far behind the demo vehicle, said the Special Secretary Home Saurabh Babu while talking to media persons in Lucknow. Giving details of the incident, he said a resident of Katiyar village Satyendra Yadav had given a sum of nearly Rs 11 to 12 lakh to his acquaintance Naushe Khan. Khan apparently did not want to pay the amount. Khan opened fire with his licensed arm on Yadav at about 1.30 pm on Tuesday, he said.

As a result villagers assembled on the nearby road and blocked movement of traffic to protest against the incident, he said. Villagers wanted to bring the incident to the notice of chief minister who was about to pass from there, he said.

The Circle Officer, Saifai, Dr Arvind Kumar who was in the demo vehicle of the CM’s fleet tried to pacify the villagers, he said. Some of them however pelted stones at the CO who was injured in the incident, he said adding the chief minister later spoke to villagers and heard their problems. Chief minister later returned safely, he said.
