The board of directors of Birla Group has decided to set up the sugar mill with a production capacity of 7,000 TCD. The production capacity will be increased to 10,000 TCD in future. Rs 350 crore will be invested in the construction of the sugar mill which will produce improvised sulphur-free sugar.
The group will also establish a power generation unit of 33 MW. In future, a distillery and a fertiliser plant are also proposed to be set up.
Senior executive vice-president of New India Sugar Mill SD Shukla appreciated the cooperation of the chief minister and Amar Singh for establishment of the sugar mill.
He said the chief minister would lay the foundation stone of the mill at 12 noon and the production in the mill would start by 2007-08.
The Chief minister will also lay the foundation stone of a steel plant at Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) on the same day.
The steel plant , with an investment of Rs 350 crore by industrialist Chandra Prakash Agrawal, will be the first big investment of any private group at GIDA.
The proposed plant will start functioning within 18 months of inception and a captive power plant for uninterrupted power supply to the plant is also proposed to reduce dependence on power supply by the power corporation.
