The CNG tempos have been launched in the city keeping in view the directives of the Supreme Court relating to air pollution. On the occasion, 50 such tempos were launched by Jain Motors. The company has a target of introducing 25 to 30 tempos per month. It may be pointed out that Kanpur city has the dubious distinction of being one of the most polluted cities in the country.

Zonal manager of Mahindra and Mahindra Gaurav Saxena said that the CNG kit offered by his company was costly but was more efficient than the CNG kits offered by other companies.
“The safety procedures have been given prominence and therefore, the cylinder has been placed in the middle of the body, “ stated Saxena.
Replying to a query, Saxena said that in comparison to other CNG tempos, the entire body of the CNG tempos launched by his company was manufactured by Mahindra and Mahindra itself and not by any local dealer.
The cost of the vehicle is Rs 2.15 lakh and it offers an average of 21 to 24 kms per kg. In the second phase, the company is planning to launch its CNG tempos in Lucknow and Agra. The company has already launched its 1600 and 500 CNG tempos in Delhi and Gujarat respectively.
