Coalition and Afghan troops have killed about 45 insurgents in strikes in southern Afghanistan, as two soldiers were killed in combat in the east, the US-led force said.

About 40 insurgents were killed in an attack on a "known enemy compound" in Uruzgan province, while another five were killed in a separate operation by coalition and Afghan forces on Friday, the coalition said.

The two coalition soldiers were killed while on patrol in the eastern province of Kunar, it said in a statement.
